✈️ Aviation Law Services
At McJannett Legal Group, we provide focused legal support for pilots and aviation professionals navigating complex issues involving the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and aviation medical certification. As both a licensed pilot and experienced attorney, Chad McJannett brings firsthand knowledge of the aviation world—both in the cockpit and in the legal system.
⚖️ FAA Enforcement Defense
We represent pilots in all stages of FAA investigations and enforcement actions, including:
Letters of Investigation (LOIs)
Emergency or non-emergency certificate actions
Suspensions, revocations, and civil penalties
Pilot deviation and operational violations
Enforcement proceedings under 14 CFR Part 13
Whether the issue stems from an ATC report, a ramp check, or an alleged FAR violation, we advise pilots on how to respond, protect their certificates, and pursue resolution through informal conferences or legal appeals.
🛫 NTSB Certificate Appeals
If the FAA moves to suspend or revoke your pilot certificate, you have the right to appeal the decision to the NTSB. We represent airmen before:
NTSB Administrative Law Judges
Full NTSB Board appeals
Federal Court (if applicable)
Our goal is to help you retain your certificate—or minimize the impact on your aviation career—through vigorous advocacy and procedural precision.
🩺 FAA Medical Certification and Special Issuance
We help pilots address complex medical certification issues involving the FAA Office of Aerospace Medicine. Services include:
Guidance with FAA Form 8500-8 (Application for Airman Medical Certificate)
Responding to deferrals, denials, or requests for additional information
Pursuing Special Issuance Authorization (14 CFR §67.401) for pilots with:
Heart conditions
Diabetes
Seizure history
Mental health diagnoses
Use of certain medications, including SSRIs
We work with your Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) and, if needed, FAA-designated HIMS AMEs to prepare comprehensive documentation and secure your medical clearance.
🚨 HIMS Program and Substance-Related Cases
Pilots with a history of substance abuse, alcohol-related offenses, or who take Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) may be required to enter the HIMS Program (Human Intervention Motivation Study).
We assist pilots at every stage of the HIMS process, including:
Structuring FAA-compliant recovery and monitoring plans
Coordinating with HIMS-trained AMEs and evaluators
Preparing FAA submissions (neuropsychological reports, sponsor letters, treatment records)
Advising on aftercare, abstinence documentation, and flight status reporting
Our goal is to help you achieve a Special Issuance and maintain long-term compliance, so you can keep flying.
